Marysville School Gunman ID'd As Freshman Homecoming King Jaylen Fryberg

Multiple reports confirm that the teen who opened fire at Marysville-Pilchuck High School on October 24 was freshman student Jaylen Fryberg.

Fryberg was a Native American who played on the school’s football team. He was named freshman Homecoming King on October 17.

According to CNN, a witness said Fryberg walked up behind a table of students “and fired about six bullets into the backs of them.” The witness said those sitting at the table “were [Fryberg’s] friends, so it wasn’t just random.”

The Seattle Times reports that Fryberg was “angry at a girl who would not date him.”

Fryberg’s Twitter account is riddled with tweets in which he talks about how upset he was over the girl and how he could not take the rejection anymore. In one tweet he lashed out at a friend by writing: “Dude. She tells me everything. And now I f-cking HATE you! You [are] no longer my ‘brother.'” In another tweet he asked: “Did you forget she was my girlfriend?”

Four people were injured and one student was killed in Fryberg’s attack. After that, Fryberg took his own life.
