Obama Pauses Hawaii Vacation to Give Condolences to NYC Police Commissioner

While vacationing in Hawaii, President Obama phoned New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton this morning to express condolences for the killing of two New York City Police officers, according to White House Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz.

“In their conversation, the President reiterated his call for the American people to reject violence and words that harm, and turn to words that heal – prayer, patient dialogue, and sympathy for the friends and family of the fallen,” Schultz said in a statement.

Schultz added that Obama would continue to monitor the situation and work with community leaders to “echo the same message” across the country.

After ending his phone call with the commissioner, Obama traveled to the Kanehoe military base where he is expected to golf today.
