Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS)–the gun control group founded by Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly–is seeking advice and trying to raise money “in the wake of repeated legislative and election defeats,” according to The Washington Times.
The Times reports that ARS sent a fundraising email to supporters that “linked to a survey” with questions revolving around “how to make the group more effective.” It said, “We’re asking our supporters to tell us what they think Americans for Responsible Solutions should do next year. Our team has some great ideas, but we want to hear from you.”
Despite ARS involvement and Giffords’ support, gun control Representative Ron Barber (D-AZ-2) lost Giffords’ former congressional seat to pro-Second Amendment Representative-elect Martha McSally (R-AZ-2) during the midterms. Politico reported ARS lost 9 of the 18 races in which it endorsed candidates in 2014.
Following the larger pro-Second Amendment landslides in midterm elections around the country, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence’s Josh Horwitz said that “he has set his sights on the next election cycle and the Congress that will convene in 2017.”
