Earlier this month a strip club on Chicago’s northwest side was the happy recipient of an award for helping improve the neighborhood.

The community group Albany Park Neighbors in Chicago’s Albany Park named the Admiral Theatre as one of its six “Block Star Businesses” for helping keep the neighborhood clean and beautiful, not to mention providing “top-notch customer service.”

On its website, the Albany Park Neighbors noted that litter affects everyone in the neighborhood, “but litter also negatively affects business, too.” The group goes on to explain that “both residents and businesses have a critical role to play in maintaining our neighborhood’s image.”

As announced on the group’s Facebook page, the Admiral Theatre was nominated for the plaudit in Sept. of 2013.

A member of the community group insisted that the theater deserved the award. “They recently upgraded their façade and even during construction it was still tidy, it was still passable,” Shylo Bisnett said.

Spokesman for the theater, Nick Cecola, told the Chicago Sun-Times that it was nice to be recognized. “We employ a lot of people and we do have someone always keeping everything clean, walking up and down the sidewalk, making sure they sweep, keeping the whole block basically immaculate,” Cecola said.
