On January 29, an armed intruder broke into the home of a Detroit, Michigan, cancer patient and was shot and killed by the patient’s 74-year-old husband.

According to WXYZ, police say the wife woke the husband up around 4:45 a.m. because she heard a noise in the house. The husband grabbed his gun, went to investigate, and found a window opened in the living room. He closed the window and was confronted by the armed intruder while walking back toward the bedroom.

The homeowner then shot and killed the intruder.

Police said “it appeared the intruder had been piling up electronics and prescription drugs by the door.”

ClickOnDetroit reports that the alleged home intruder’s uncle believes his nephew “was after prescription drugs.”
