On February 5, Breitbart News reported a murder-suicide on the University of South Carolina campus. The identity of the two deceased persons were not immediately released.

On February 7, police revealed that the alleged shooter was 46-year-old Sunghee Kwon, and the victim was her ex-husband, 45-year-old professor Raja A. Fayad.

According to Greenville Online, the bodies of Kwon and Fayad were “found on the fourth floor of the Arnold Public Health Research Center.” The attack “appears to have happened at about 12:50 p.m., in a small office that adjoins a laboratory.”

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said “Fayad died of complications from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.” Kwon died from what is believed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her abdomen.

Police spokesman Thom Berry said “no suicide note or any other letters suggesting what may have happened” between Kwon and Fayad have been found.

Fayad taught immunology and nutrition the University of South Carolina.
