Breitbart Texas chief Brandon Darby earned the Best Sunlight Post of 2014 at the annual CPAC Blogbash ceremony, for his work highlighting the overcrowded conditions of U.S. processing centers for illegals detained at the border.

At the height of the border crisis in 2014, Breitbart Texas’ Darby received a series of photographs of the overcrowded conditions of several Border Patrol detention centers for illegals.

Darby found that children, many under the age of 12, apprehended at the border after making dangerous, even life-threatening trips north into the U.S., had ended up in facilities where thousands of people were sleeping shoulder to shoulder on hard floors.

The photos, as Darby noted last June, illuminate the conditions of the U.S. Border Patrol’s processing centers, as well as the overwhelming task Border Patrol is facing.

Upon accepting the award, Darby noted that he entered into the world of journalism without much training. “I didn’t even know how to write,” he said. But with the tutelage of hard working editors at Breitbart News he came into his own, he said.

The award was bestowed upon him by the National Bloggers Club in its fourth annual award ceremony held during the Conservative Political Action Conference. National Bloggers Club is an organization of over 400 political bloggers from across the nation started in 2010. Ali Akbar, president, and Melissa Clouthier organize the event.
