As of January 8, 2013 the Social Security Administration had granted some 90,000 Social Security Numbers to illegal immigrants granted amnesty under President Obama’s 2012 executive amnesty for so-called “Dreamers,” according to Sens. Ben Sasse (R-NE) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL).

With even larger executive amnesty programs in the works and government reports indicating that, once illegal immigrants are granted work permits and Social Security numbers as a result of Obama’s executive actions, they are eligible for a wealth of benefits and tax refunds for illegal work, the pair want more information.

In a Thursday letter, Sasse and Sessions pressed Social Security Administration Commissioner Carolyn Colvin on how many illegal immigrants have been granted Social Security Numbers so far, beyond the 90,000 granted as of January 2013.

They further requested information on whether amnestied illegal immigrants have applied for and received benefits under either the Social Security Disability Insurance program or the Supplemental Security Income program.

“The American people have a right to know the full costs of President Obama’s unlawful executive amnesty,” Sasse said. “The White House unilaterally re-wrote the laws and taxpayers are just beginning to learn the full scope of these actions.”

“Congress has a duty to conduct oversight and hold the Administration accountable for its actions and use of taxpayer dollars,” he added.
