Even the cold weather didn’t depress the violence in Chicago this weekend. Over the chilly weekend, 13 were wounded and 4 died. Among those killed in the region was an Indiana father of two who died from a stabbing.

The dozen shootings included many young men in their 20s, nearly every incident gang related. A 17-year-old boy was shot in a drive-by shooting that occurred on Saturday afternoon.

One of the few shootings that wasn’t necessarily tied to gang violence was a man who was shot several times during a home invasion and robbery early on Sunday morning.

The violence wasn’t contained only to the big city. An Indiana father of two lost his life in nearby Northwest Indiana. Twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Headley died after being stabbed at Franco’s Bar in Highland, Indiana, a city only 35 miles from Chicago.

With the weekend’s toll added, the last week in Chicago has been particularly dangerous for some Windy City neighborhoods. Since last weekend, more than three dozen people were shot with 6 killed. Since March 15, a whopping 47 Chicagoans have been shot with 12 deaths resulting.

That brings the year’s death rate to 63 killed among 310 shootings. Another 10 have died from other types of homicides.
