The departure of White House Chief Floral designer Laura Dowling is making news, after it was revealed that she was escorted off the premises nearly six weeks ago.

Although Dowling issued a statement saying that she had simply “resigned” to pursue other opportunities, the Washington Post reports several sources indicating Dowling left because of her “fussy style” that was not in line with Michelle Obama’s “emerging modern and clean aesthetics.”

According to the Post, Mrs. Obama “debuted a different aesthetic at the executive mansion” after opening the newly refurbished Old Family dining room to public tours.

When the Obamas first moved to the White House in 2009, Dowling’s hire was promoted by the New York Times as one of the “modern flourishes” debuted by the new first family.
