During a speech marking the dedication of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, President Obama complained about the negative effect of money and special interests have on politics in the modern era of the Senate.

“I think he regretted … the outside influences of money and special interests and how it all leads more Americans to turn away in disgust and simply choose not to exercise their right to vote,” Obama said, referring to Kennedy’s reflections at the end of his life.

But right after the ceremony, however, Obama is scheduled to attend a Democratic National Committee fundraiser at a restaurant in Cambridge, coordinated to fit the president’s Massachusetts visit.

The planned DNC “roundtable event” is planned for about 30 supporters contributing up to $33,400 according to the DNC.
