On March 29, the Mississippi Senate passed legislation containing a slew of crucial pro-gun proposals, one of which shields Mississippians from prosecution if the ATF or another federal agency revisits and institutes an AR-15 ammo ban in the future.

The pro-gun legislation is now headed to Governor Phil Bryant (R).

According to NRA-ILA, the pro-gun legislation also includes protections on the “transport” of a “loaded or unloaded pistol or revolver in a purse” without a concealed carry permit, “establishes a special classification of carry permit for honorably retired law enforcement officers,” and “eliminates [the] training requirement for an enhanced carry permit endorsement for active military personnel.”

Persons with an “enhanced carry permit endorsement” face fewer “off-limits-to carry” locations than regular concealed carry permit holders.

These pro-gun measures, and others, are contained in SB 2394 and SB 2619.

The measure protecting Mississippians who own AR-15 ammo from prosecution is in SB 2619. It will protect Mississippians in the event of future bans instituted “without any approval from Congress.”
