Carly Fiorina: The ‘Privilege Of Citizenship’ Belongs To People Who ‘Did It The Right Way’

Former Hewlett Packard CEO and now 2016 GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina remains consistent in her position on immigration.

The New York Times reported Fiorina switched her position on immigration, but what she told reporters during a conference call on Monday morning is the same thing she told voters in Iowa last week.

She previously discussed immigration while in Urbandale, Iowa outside of Des Moines. When questioned by a concerned voter, she said no one should get a pass because too many people work to earn citizenship. Fiorina added it’s not just about rights, it’s about responsibility.

On the phone with Breitbart News, among other national media outlets, Fiorina said, “Immigration is a situation where people have lost faith in the political class because we have had so many long standing problems.”

“The border has not been secure for a very long time,” Fiorina stated.

She added that neither Republicans nor Democrats have been able to secure the northern or southern border and that this is a fundamental job of government.

Fiorina referenced her recent visit to New Hampshire where voters expressed concern about large amounts of heroine coming across northern border, causing a drug abuse problem.

She said securing the border is the first priority to being able to “fix the legal immigration system.”

“We now have 16 different visa programs,” she said. In a previous radio interview with Fox News, Fiorina explained that half of the illegal immigrants who are here in America originally came on a visa that has now expired.

Fiorina said America must decide what to do with people who came to the country illegally. She said she doesn’t believe they have the right to earn citizenship.

“I think the privilege of citizenship should be left to those who worked hard and did it the right way,” Fiorina added.
