On May 3, Sergio Valencia del Toro allegedly rode his bike to the Trestle Trail Bridge in Menasha, Wisconsin, pulled out two guns, and opened fire, randomly killing three people before taking his own life.

Investigators believe del Toro’s actions were the result of “relationship issues with his girlfriend.”

According to Fox 6, the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m., while families were walking on the bridge.

Jonathan Stoffel (33), his daughter Olivia (11), and his wife Erin (32) were all struck. Jonathan and Olivia died, but Erin survived. Another, 31-year-old Adam Bentdahl, was also struck by a bullet and killed.

Police arrived to find the four victims, as well as a severely wounded del Toro, lying on the bridge.

Del Toro served in the U.S. Air Force “as a food service journeyman from November 2008 to March 2014.” Once out of the Air Force, he joined the National Guard and had recently enlisted in the Army. He was “scheduled to leave for basic training in June.”

Del Toro was also a member of the Menasha Police Auxiliary, where he had trained in “radio use and traffic direction.” Officials stress that Del Toro was at “no time … provided with training in any firearms by the police department.”
