New Jersey Governor Chris Christie called out former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton yesterday for “pandering” to illegal immigrants in order to win votes.

“I quite frankly think her position is extreme,” said Christie during a trip to New Hampshire, according to CNN.

Clinton bashed Republicans on Tuesday and said she supports a path to legal status for illegal immigrants. “When they talk about legal status, that is code for second-class status,” she said.

Christie said that Clinton’s endorsement of a “path to citizenship” was problematic for immigrants who were entering the country legally.

“I think we have to have a much broader conversation than just pandering,” he said, referring to Clinton. “We should not just be pandering. We should be talking about this honestly.”

Christie repeated what he has been saying in recent months about illegal immigration, pointing out that people in the United States wanted to work, not to vote. That principal suggests that he would prefer a path to legal status for illegal immigrants – not citizenship.

Christie also teased an upcoming speech on the issue in which he would detail his own specific plan on immigration reform.
