Florida Representative Tops Rubio as Top State Conservative

According to the American Conservative Union’s 2014 congressional rankings in Florida, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) (R) is the state’s top conservative, besting Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and potential senatorial opponent, Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL) (R).

DeSantis has recently announced that he will be running in the 2016 Senate race to replace Senator Marco Rubio, who had stated he would not run for re-election to the U.S. Senate if he entered the presidential race, which he already has.

While Rubio comes in second to DeSantis in Florida in the ACU rankings, Rubio (96%) is also second to Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) (100%) among the three senators who have declared their intentions to run for president in 2016.

Senator Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is the third declared presidential candidate, and like Rubio, he has also garnered a 96% ACU ranking.

Here are the 2014 ACU rankings for the entire Florida congressional delegation:

DeSantis 100%; Rubio 96%; Miller 92%; Posey 92%; Yoho 80%; Mica 80%; Nugent 80%; Bilirakis 78%; Ross 76%; Rooney 76%; Southerland 72 percent; Webster 72%; Buchanan 71%; Crenshaw 56%; Jolly 55%; Ros-Lehtinen 50%; Diaz-Balart 44%; Grayson 13%; Garcia 12%; Brown 8; Deutch 8; Wilson 8; Castor 4; Murphy 4; Frankel 0; Nelson 0; Wasserman Schultz 0.

Yes, you have read correctly. Liberal Democrat Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) ranks higher than supposed centrist Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-FL) (D), who has also declared he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2016.
