FORT PIERCE, Fla., June 17 (UPI) — Officials in a Florida county explained recent beach closings with a YouTube video of three sharks swimming in shallow waters.

St. Lucie County officials said the two reef sharks recorded swimming Monday just feet offshore at Waveland Beach were among several sharks spotted at Waveland and Pepper Park beaches, leading to the beaches being closed temporarily.

“We started seeing them around 2 p.m. and they just weren’t leaving,” St. Lucie County spokesman Erick Gill told TCPalm.

The video posted to the county’s official YouTube account encouraged swimmers to choose beaches with on-duty lifeguards.

“This is just one reason you should swim at a lifeguarded beach. St. Lucie County has two full-time lifeguarded beaches (Waveland & Pepper Park),” officials wrote in the video’s description.
