DETROIT (AP) — One person was killed and nine others were wounded Saturday night when someone opened fire at a party on a basketball court in Detroit, authorities said.

Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt said about 400 people – including families with small children in strollers – had gathered for a neighborhood party when shots were fired at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

A 20-year-old man was killed, Dolunt said. He was not being identified while relatives were informed.

The victims ranged in age from 21 to 46, he said, and three of them were women. A 46-year-old man was in critical condition late Saturday night, according to Cassandra Lewis, the department’s Public Information Officer. She said the rest of the victims had injuries that were not life-threatening.

“Through the grace of God no children were shot,” he said.

Dolunt also said that police don’t know the reason for the shooting. No one has been arrested, Lewis said.
