As McCain Argues Obamatrade Is a ‘Victory for Arizona’s Economy,’ Kelli Ward Prepares Challenge

U.S. Senator John McCain is taking to Twitter again to push the highly controversial Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) as a benefit to Arizona and the U.S. economy.

Real estate mogul and recently announced 2016 Presidential candidate Donald Trump told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren, “That trade pact is a disaster for jobs in our country.”

At first voting for, but now opposing TPA, Senator Ted Cruz wrote Tuesday, “TPA in this Congress has become enmeshed in corrupt Washington backroom deal-making, along with serious concerns that it would open up the potential for sweeping changes in our laws that trade agreements typically do not include.”

Potential McCain primary election challenger, Arizona State Senator Kelli Ward told Breitbart News Sunday radio listeners: “We shouldn’t be doing government business in secret.” She highlighted the shifty voting games that politicians play, confusing voters over their elected officials’ actual positions on the issues.

“I think [McCain’s support for ObamaTrade is] very important to people in Arizona. I think that they are worried about American jobs. They’re worried about making sure that we hold our status in the world,” Ward said, indicating McCain’s support for TPA could further weaken his standing with Arizonans.

On the presidential front, McCain announced his support of Senator Lindsay Graham’s candidacy for President in 2016 before Graham even announced.

Cruz noted that Graham along with Democrat Senator Maria Cantwell (WA) had early on been conditioning support for TPA on the unrelated reauthorization of the corporate welfare Export-Import Bank. Later revelations seemed to indicate a deal had been struck to extend existence of and resulting money flows from the Ex-Im Bank. Tuesday the Senate voted to end further debate on TPA with a 60-37 vote on cloture. A final Senate vote is expected on Wednesday. If passed it will proceed to President Obama’s desk.
