Huckabee Drums To His Own Beat at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church

GOP presidential candidate Gov. Mike Huckabee – following his standing ovations at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa – headed to South Carolina to visit the Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church Sunday in Manning, South Carolina.

Not only did Huckabee meet with the congregation, but he also returned to his roots as a former Baptist pastor and delivered a homily – then surprised everyone by playing the drums.

“I hear people say we’ve got racial problems. We don’t have a skin problem in this country, we have a sin problem in this country,” said Huckabee, who appealed to the mostly African American audience.

As a GOP presidential candidate, Huckabee is working to broaden his appeal to black voters.

Huckabee preached, “It’s when we elevate ourselves above those around us and we don’t understand that God doesn’t elevate anybody over anybody,” as he linked God with neighbor.

“There was handshaking and baby kissing and a strong religious message within Huckabee’s speech,” CNN reported.

Huckabee surprised attendees and his Senior Communications Director Hogan Gidley by taking to a set of drums during his visit at the church.

“While @govmikehuckabee is most known for his abilities to slap a four string bass guitar…when he saw this drum set he couldn’t resist laying down a sick beat. I had NO idea he could play drums too,” Hogan Gidley posted on Instagram with the video.
