Part of Minneapolis Airport Evacuated After Bag Tests Positive for Explosives

Part of Minnesota’s Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport was evacuated on Saturday afternoon after a backpack found lying unattended tested positive for explosive materials.

Airport public affairs official Melissa Scovronski said that the backpack that was left near the United ticket counter was tested by members of the Transportation Security Administration. The test showed a positive for trace elements of explosives.

Immediately, part of Terminal One was evacuated as a safety precaution, officials reported.

Bloomington, MN police were called, but when the backpack was given closer examination, no explosives were found inside.

The terminal was reopened after about two and a half hours. The owner of the backpack was never identified.
