Trump and Huckabee Turn Down C-SPAN and New Hampshire Union Leader Candidate Forum

C-SPAN and the New Hampshire Union Leader joined together to bring voters a GOP presidential candidate forum Monday evening, but two top tier candidates will be missing from the event—Donald Trump and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Fourteen of the GOP presidential candidates will participate in a two-hour forum at St. Anselm’s College in Manchester. Jack Heath, host of New Hampshire Today and a veteran political reporter in New Hampshire, will moderate the forum.

GOP presidential candidates Donald Trump, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore will not attend the forum.

“I feel it is unlikely I will be getting the endorsement from you and the Union Leader. I have made a great fortune based on instinct and that, unfortunately, is my view. Therefore, and for other reasons including the fact that I feel there are too many people onstage to have a proper forum, I will not be attending,” stated Trump, responding to why he won’t be at the forum Monday night.

Communications Director Alice Stewart for Huckabee’s campaign told Breitbart News he was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict.

According to a press release, Gilmore’s campaign announcement came too late, after the reported qualifying period.

The candidates who are scheduled to attend are:

  1. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush
  2. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie
  3. Ben Carson
  4. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
  5. Carly Fiorina
  6. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
  7. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal
  8. Ohio Gov. John Kasich
  9. Former New York Gov. George Pataki
  10. Rand Paul (R-KY)
  11. Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry
  12. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
  13. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum
  14. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker

Each candidate will have two rounds of questions generated from the New Hampshire Union Leader and the public.

The forum is scheduled to begin at 7 PM eastern Monday night and will be broadcast on C-SPAN.
