Democrat Party: We Would Welcome Kanye West’s Presidential Candidacy

At the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday, rapper Kanye West announced he intends to run for president in 2020. While West was admittedly under the influence of an unknown substance at the time of the announcement, the Democratic Party said on Twitter Monday it would welcome him as a candidate.

The Democrats then shared a series of GIFs mocking Republican presidential candidates Chris Christie, Marco Rubio and Scott Walker using Kanye West reactions to go after the each respective candidate’s platform on illegal immigration:

Sunday night, during a mostly incoherent speech pleading for America to listen to young people, West said he had “rolled up a little something to knock the edge off,” before announcing he would run for president.

“I’m confident. I believe in myself. We the millennials, bro. This is a new mentality. We’re not going to control our kids with brands. We’re not going to teach low self-esteem and hate to our kids. We’re going to teach our kids that they can be something … to believe in themselves.”

West later declared, “It ain’t about me, It’s about ideas, bro!” before stating, “you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”

Monday, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest also weighed in on West’s announcement announcement.

While traveling to Alaska on Air Force One, Earnest told the Associated Press he is looking “forward to seeing what slogan he [Kanye] chooses to embroider on his campaign hat.”
