Obama Gains Enough Senate Votes to Block Iran Deal Opposition

President Obama has earned enough Democratic votes in the Senate to filibuster a Senate effort to block the Iran nuclear deal, if necessary.

On Monday, Sens Gary Peters (D-MI), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) announced their support for the deal, tallying enough votes to successfully filibuster the deal.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced his opposition to the deal in a surprise defection from Obama, citing Iran’s support of terrorism and the death of American soldiers.

“This regime has shown no signs that its deplorable behavior will change, and this deal does nothing to guarantee that behavior changes,” Manchin said.

Only three other Democratic senators voiced their opposition to the deal — Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), and Ben Cardin (D-MD)

Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) has not revealed how she would vote.

The news comes one day prior to an opposition rally against the deal at Congress featuring Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, Mark Levin, and Glenn Beck.
