Breitbart Primary: Trump on Top, Surging Carson Gains on Cruz

Businessman Donald Trump won September’s Breitbart Primary with 36% of the vote, as the 171,862 people who voted in the Breitbart Primary last month again overwhelmingly favored non-politicians and anti-establishment candidates.

Trump, who won last month’s primary, defeated Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who finished in second with 18% of the vote. Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson finished in third with 13% and is inching closer to overtaking Cruz for second place. Carson, who finished 16 percentage points behind Cruz in last month’s Breitbart primary, was just five points behind the conservative Texas Senator in September’s voting.

Carly Fiorina finished in fourth with 8%, which means three in four Breitbart Primary voters chose non-politicians and anti-establishment candidates (Trump, Cruz, Carson, Fiorina).

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) finished in fifth place with 4% and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was just behind him in sixth place, also with 4% support. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney finished in seventh place with 1% of the vote; Romney actually received more votes than John Kasich, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, and Bobby Jindal.

Here are the results of September’s Breitbart Primary:

1. Donald Trump: 36%
2. Ted Cruz: 18%
3. Ben Carson: 13%
4. Carly Fiorina: 8%
5. Rand Paul: 4%
6. Marco Rubio 4%
7. Mitt Romney: 1%
8. John Kasich: 1%
9. Scott Walker: 1%
10. Jeb Bush: 1%
11. Mike Huckabee: 0%
12. Chris Christie: 0%
13. Bobby Jindal: 0%
14. Rick Santorum: 0%
15. Undecided: 0%
16. Rick Perry: 0%
17. George Pataki: 0%
18. Lindsey Graham: 0%

Though Trump continued to receive the lion’s share of the first-place votes, Carson received the most second- and third-place votes, showing his broad appeal to conservative primary voters. Carson received 20% of the second-place votes, followed by Cruz (18%), Fiorina (11%), and Trump (8%). Carson received 15% of third-place votes, and he was followed by Fiorina (13%), Cruz (10%) and Rubio (8%).

The Breitbart Primary is reset each month, which means the previous month’s results are zeroed-out. Voting for October’s Breitbart Primary is now open and readers are encouraged to cast their votes here.
