Report of Armed Man at Community College in Texas, El Paso Schools on Lockdown

UPDATE:

Update: The lockdown at all of Canutillo ISD’s nine schools and El Paso Community College’s (EPCC) northwest campus was lifted late this afternoon after police determined there was “no credible threat” found, according to the El Paso Times. Police swept high school classrooms but no confirmation of a person with a gun materialized. “We have not found anyone with a gun,” said EPCC police chief Jose Ramirez. Campus police said they will follow up on the investigation to determine if there was ever an armed man with a gun on the community college campus, KFOX 14 reported.

Schools in Northwest El Paso are on lockdown after a report of a gun at El Paso Community College.

KVIA-TV reported that Canutillo Independent School district high schools and central office are among those on lockdown in North El Paso following the report of a gun on the nearby community college’s campus. According to police radio transmissions at about 1:15 p.m., law enforcement said that El Paso Community College (EPCC) had searched the campus and did not find a person with a gun.

The El Paso TV news outlet also reported conflicting information, indicating, that in the same radio transmissions, officers said that the two people who reported a subject with a gun had been contacted by El Paso police and they told law enforcement they never saw a gun.

EPCC sent out a Tejano Alert to its students and faculty, stating, “Please be aware we have a subject who is possibly armed and was last seen near North West campus. North West campus is currently on lock down, please do not leave your classrooms.”

The Canutillo Independent School District posted on its Facebook page regarding the lockdown: “Lock down orders have been issued for Canutillo High, Northwest Early College High and Canutillo Central Office at approximately 12:10 p.m. due to report of person with gun on EPCC campus. Everyone is safe. Additional updates will be provided when available. Please do not respond to campuses until all clear orders are received.”

The district since posted on Facebook: “Law enforcement is on scene. All students and staff are safe. We are standing by for orders. Please do not respond to campuses.”
