House Speaker John Boehner is setting new dates for a speaker election. His first attempt went horribly awry after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy abruptly dropped out of the race in the October 8 election.
The new election among House Republicans will be held Oct. 28, according to Boehner’s announcement and the floor election will be Oct. 29.
Rep. Paul Ryan announced that he would be open to the prospect of running for Speaker, but only if his conservative colleagues would make dramatic concessions in order to unite behind him.
He is expected to make a final decision by Friday, October 23.
