A soldier dressed as a suicide bomber for Halloween caused emergency explosive teams to be dispatched when he/she tried to enter the Fort Bragg military base. The soldier has only been identified as “a soldier.”

The soldier’s appearance at the military installation gate commenced a response from an explosive ordinance disposal team, spokespersons at Fort Bragg was reported to have said. The gate also had to be cleared.

The suicide bomber costume included a fake explosive vest. NBC News reported that the base issued a statement that “Costumes of this sort are not allowed on Fort Bragg.”

A statement from the military installation said, “The senior commander of Fort Bragg further directs that soldiers not wear costumes of this sort off post and strongly encourages soldiers, DA civilians, and family members to follow the same guidance to prevent similar issues within our neighboring communities.”

In May, CNN reported that U.S. military bases raised their threat alert levels in response to increased activity on the part of the Islamic State. A message by the jihadist group in May claimed that they have 71 “trained” jihadists prepared to attack within the United States.

As reported by Breitbart News on May 8th, the threat level at the bases were raised to “Force Protection Bravo.” The Pentagon describes this level as “increased and predictable threat of terrorism.” CNN had noted that this was the highest threat alert level military installations have received since the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Fort Bragg is one of the largest United States Army installations in the world, and is located within four counties in North Carolina. It borders the cities of Fayetteville, Spring Lake, and Southern Pines. It is the home of U.S. Army airborne and special operations forces.
