President Barack Obama is urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to focus his military power on ISIS in Syria.
Obama and his national Security advisor Susan Rice huddled with Putin Sunday, to discuss Russia’s role in the Syrian conflict.
According to a White House official speaking on background, their conversation lasted about 35 minutes. The official noted the Americans are pressing for a political transition in Syria away from the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad
Obama met with Putin prior to the beginning of the G-20 summit in Turkey. He also offered Putin condolences for the loss of Russian life in the destruction of a passenger plane last month, killing all 224 people on board. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
