On December 13, protesters with AR-15s slung over their shoulders crashed a Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America rally in Missoula, Montana.

Missoula Mayor and gun control proponent John Engen (D) spoke at the rally and acknowledged that gun owners had the right to carry their firearms openly in his city and state, and he tried to keep Moms Demand members focused on pressuring city council members to bring gun control back up for a vote in Missoula.

Breitbart News previously reported that Engen, Moms Demand, and City Councilman Bryan von Lossberg almost pushed through a universal background check measure on the people of Missoula, but it was stopped in its tracks and “sent back to committee” once the people saw what was happening. Universal background checks are the same kind of checks they have in California and Colorado, where our nation’s last three most recent high-profile shootings have occurred. Those include the two Colorado Springs shootings—Halloween day and November 27—and the December 2 San Bernardino terror attack.

According to the Missoulian, even though the universal background checks failed miserably in CA and CO, von Lossberg contends they still provide “a chance to save lives in Missoula.” He did not mention that almost every mass shooter in recent memory passed a background check for his or her guns, a fact which demonstrates that background checks do not hinder determined attackers nor save the lives they intend to take.

Breitbart News previously reported that the list attackers and alleged attackers who passed background checks for their firearms include Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik (San Bernardino handguns), Chris Harper-Mercer (Umpqua Community College), Vester Lee Flangan (Virgina), John Russell Houser  (Lafayette), Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez (Chattanooga), Dylann Roof (Charleston), Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi (Garland), Jared and Amanda Miller (Las Vegas), Elliot Rodger (Santa Barabara), Ivan Lopez (Fort Hood 2014), Darion Marcus Aguilar (Maryland mall), Karl Halverson Pierson (Arapahoe High School), Paul Ciancia (LAX), Andrew John Engeldinger (Minneapolis), Aaron Alexis (DC Navy Yard), Tennis Melvin Maynard (West Virginia), Wade Michael Page (Sikh Temple), James Holmes (Aurora theater), Jared Loughner (Tucson), Nidal Hasan (Fort Hood 2009), Jiverly Wong (Binghamton), Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech), Naveed Haq (Seattle), and Mark Barton (Atlanta).

What universal background checks do accomplish is to further the paperwork trail on every gun in the city by requiring a background check to be run on all sales—retail and private. This ultimately gives gun control proponents that which they most desire—namely, a way to ascertain the name and address of every gun owner in Missoula.

But the Moms Demand rally was not devoid of persons intent on standing against the gun control push. The Missoulian reported that a dozen of the 50 persons at the rally had rifles slung over their shoulders and—in some cases—Glock handguns on their hips. These gun owners were there to make clear their opinion that Missoula does not need any more gun control.
