During a New Year’s Eve sermon at Heal the Land Outreach Ministries in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Pastor Larry Wright disarmed a man with a rifle in one hand and an ammunition magazine in another. After disarming him, the pastor led the congregation in praying for him.

According to WNCN, Pastor Wright was preaching a sermon when he saw the armed man enter the back of the sanctuary. The armed man said, “I came here with some terrible things on my mind, I was going to do some bad things.”

Pastor Wright said the “man calmly shared he’d been previously hurt by the church, recently released from prison and was also a veteran.” The pastor took the gun out of the man’s hand and called on the congregation to pray for him.

“I told the congregation, its OK, he wants prayer and I began to pray for him, and the power of God hit and he fell to his knees and began to cry and weep and he had his face on the ground,” Wright said.

The man, now unarmed, then sat among the congregants and listened as Pastor Wright finished the sermon.
