As tens of thousands of pro-life activists descend on Washington D.C. on the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade for the annual March for Life, the abortion industry is fighting back with a series of videos performed by seven actresses about women in various circumstances who have had abortions.
Elizabeth Banks, Amy Brenneman, Mercedes Mason, Mary McCormack, Dascha Polanco, Retta, and Bellamy Young have joined the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR) in the video series Draw the Line Monologues. The actresses perform the video vignettes which, according to a press release, are “inspired by stories submitted by American women about access to abortion care.”
The video series comes as the abortion industry prepares for the U.S. Supreme Court’s consideration of the case of Whole Women’s Health v. Cole on March 2. Abortionists filed suit against a women’s safety provision in Texas that requires abortion facilities to meet the same health and safety standards as ambulatory surgical centers and another that requires abortionists to have admitting privileges at a local hospital should a woman need hospital care following abortion complications.
According to the press release, CRR “worked with each of the individual women to develop the scripts so they accurately reflected their gripping personal experiences.”
Nancy Northrup, president and CEO of CRR said in a statement:
The stories highlighted by these incredible actresses tell the important and moving story of women who face many obstacles to access their constitutionally-protected right to an abortion. We’re so grateful to Amy, Bellamy, Dascha, Elizabeth, Mary, Mercedes, and Retta for using their talent and voice to help amplify these incredible stories.
The reality is that one in three women in the U.S. will have an abortion at some point in her lifetime. And for the last 43 years, our constitutional rights have protected each of those women’s decisions.
As we prepare to argue for women’s access to safe, legal abortion services before the U.S. Supreme Court, we need to make it clear to politicians exactly what’s at stake when they attack our reproductive freedom and fundamental rights.
This is about real women’s lives, health, and families. It’s time to stand up and be heard. It’s time to say that enough is enough, and that we are drawing the line.
CRR hosted a luncheon with the entertainment industry to discuss how Hollywood celebrities could help the abortion industry by calling attention to the personal stories of women’s abortions, reports Variety.
