DES MOINES, Iowa — Dr. Ben Carson, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate who will appear on the main stage of the Fox News Channel debate on Thursday, told Breitbart News Tuesday evening he’s “not concerned” about whether moderators Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier, and Chris Wallace will be fair.

“I’m not concerned about that,” Carson replied when asked at a press conference by Breitbart News here in Des Moines whether he’s concerned about fairness. “I remember this same group of moderators asking me some pretty tough questions too, and that’s okay—as long as we’re going to actually talk about the issues and not about personalities, I’m going to be very happy.”

Carson added, when another reporter asked him if billionaire and frontrunner Donald Trump is pulling out of the debate on Thursday evening to get more “publicity,” that he thinks Trump may end up being on the stage after all in the end.

“I would not be surprised if he ends up in the debate,” Carson said. “It wouldn’t surprise me at all.”

Carson’s campaign, just after Trump announced he was going to hold a pro-veterans fundraiser instead of attending the Fox News debate, released a statement saying he would be appearing on the debate stage.

“Dr. Carson is focused on getting his message to the voters and is looking forward to Thursday’s debate,” Jason Osborne, Senior Communications Strategist for the Carson campaign, said in the statement. “Dr. Carson is grateful to Fox News for providing this forum as a service to the people of Iowa just prior to their Caucus. Regardless of who is on the stage, Dr. Carson will be speaking directly to the voters and sharing his plans to ‘Heal, Inspire and Revive’ America.”
