NPR’s “Morning Edition” host Steve Inskeep is comparing GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s rise in American politics to that of President Andrew Jackson in The New York Times’ Opinion Pages.

Inskeep – who authored “Jacksonland: President Andrew Jackson, Cherokee Chief John Ross, and a Great American Land Grab” – argues that Jackson and Trump have similar campaign styles.

He also notes that both of the men made their fortune in real estate.

“And again like Mr. Trump, a former Democrat and independent, Jackson did not worry about consistency,” Inskeep writes. “Having joined the nation’s wealthy elite, he ran for president as an opponent of wealthy elites.”

Inskeep’s comparison can be read here.
