Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush showcased a firm grasp on foreign policy in an interview with Breitbart News Washington Political Editor Matthew Boyle, which aired on Sirius/XM’s Breitbart News Daily show Friday morning.

Boyle asked the former Governor of Florida what his plan was to defeat and destroy the Islamic State terror group. Bush said he had unveiled his plan to defeat the Islamic State in August, before the attacks and San Bernardino, California, and Paris, France.

“Everyone now is pounding their chests and saying what they’re going to do, but no one laid out a detailed plan. And the plan that I laid out was to embed our troops with the Iraqi military to train them, to reestablish their professionalism,” Bush said.

He reminded listeners that Iraqi leader Nouro Maliki “resorted to his sectarian ways” the moment the U.S. left the country.

“We need to directly arm the Kurds with more sophisticated weapons than the Obama Administration’s been willing to do,” he said.

Bush explained that the dynamics in the region establish that Iran-backed forces cannot maintain peace and stability in Iraq.

“We need to reestablish the political and military partnership with the Sunni tribal leaders, because ultimately, to hold that territory, you can’t do it with Shiite militias,” he explained.

Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 from 6 am EST to 9 am EST every weekday.
