White House: Obama Welcomes Opportunity to Criticize Donald Trump

White House press secretary Josh Earnest stepped up the president’s ongoing anti-Donald Trump messaging by criticizing the Republican front runner at a press briefing today.

Earnest said Obama “welcomed” the opportunity to use Trump’s comments on nuclear weapons last weak, helping the president illustrate his policies as more sober and sensible.

“In comparison, to the ill-informed, unwise, intemperate remarks of Mr. Trump, I think only illustrates the benefits of President Obama’s approach,” he said.

“Does he dread these questions that he’s always going to get now? Or does he relish the opportunity to counter that messaging?” asked CNN’s Michelle Kosinski.

Earnest replied that Obama was likely to increase his level of Trump criticism should the controversial billionaire win the Republican nomination for president.

“If Mr. Trump does become the nominee, I suspect that over the course of the Summer and Fall as the president is campaigning for the Democratic nominee, the president will have many more opportunities to highlight the difference in approach between that which is advocated by Mr. Trump and that which is advocated by Democrats and in some cases even this administration,” he said.

Earnest added that Obama was still comfortable that the American people would not elect Trump president, and that the president would share his disagreements with the billionaire both in private and in public.
