A wheelchair-bound Vietnam vet in Monticello, Georgia, shot and killed a suspected home intruder on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m.

According to The Atlanta Constitution-Journal, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) says 69-year-old Eddie Frank Smith was at home when 22-year-old Andre Smith forced his way inside the house. Andre — who was not related to the elder Smith — made entry through a back door.

When the elder Smith went to investigate the noise, Andre allegedly lunged at him. The elder Smith then fired in self-defense, striking Andre in the chest.

Andre “ran away and collapsed about 100 yards from the residence.” He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
