Michelle Obama Tells Oprah How She Deals With ‘The Haters’

First Lady Michelle Obama explains how she deals with “the haters” as she prepares to leave the White House with her husband in January.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the First Lady explained that she learned how to turn off social media and traditional media criticism of her family.

“You can’t be reading all that stuff. I mean, that’s like letting somebody just walk up and slap you, you know?” she said. “You would never just sit there and go, slap me in the face and I’m good with it.”

After turning off the noise, she said, she focused on her different initiatives in the White House.

“You don’t have to say anything to the haters. You don’t have to acknowledge them at all,” she said. “You just wake up every morning and be the best you you can be and that tends to shut them up.”

She said it was more important to let her actions define her — not the critics.

“The best revenge is success,” she said.
