A mother shot and killed a home intruder she discovered in one of her children’s bedrooms.

According to the Associated Press (AP), police said the “33-year-old mother shot and killed” an unidentified 59-year-old male intruder upon finding him in her home before 2 a.m. on June 26 in Portland, Oregon.

CBS News adds, “The woman shot the man … with her personal handgun after a confrontation.”

Police list the mother and two children, five and ten years old, as “victims” and say “the family is traumatized.”

Neighbors said the home had been vacant for some time before the mother and her children moved in. One neighbor, Amber Murray, said, “I know when the previous renters were there, there was a lot of mischief. After they moved out I think there were a few squatters in and out of there.”
