Planned Parenthood Targets Abortion Restrictions in Eight States After SCOTUS Win

Fresh off its victory in the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down a Texas statute that requires abortion facilities to maintain the same safety standards as other outpatient surgical facilities, Planned Parenthood is now hungry for the repeal of similar abortion restrictions passed in eight other states.

“This victory gives us the opportunity to march state by state, legislature by legislature, rule by rule, bill by bill, and reclaim women’s health and rights across the country, 100%, no burdens on any woman, anywhere,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

By partnering with Democrats in state legislatures, the nation’s largest abortion business plans a repeal campaign that will target health and safety laws passed in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia, reports ABC News.

Planned Parenthood also plans to work to repeal other abortion measures passed in Texas that were not the subject of the Supreme Court’s 5-3 decision this week. The high court’s majority found Texas’ safety standards statute for abortion facilities and a requirement that abortionists have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals to be an “undue burden” on a woman’s right to an abortion.

According to Planned Parenthood, the health and safety standards are “burdensome, medically unnecessary, and often prohibitively expensive building requirements” that force their abortion facilities “to be designed like ambulatory surgical centers.”

In addition, the abortion business says the provision that abortionists maintain hospital privileges at local hospitals is a “medically unnecessary requirement.”

Meanwhile, Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee, said she anticipates Planned Parenthood’s repeal efforts would not gain momentum with state lawmakers.

“The only way the abortion industry has been able to advance the abortion cause is through the courts,” she said. “They will have to judge-shop and find which judges were appointed by pro-abortion presidents.”

The abortion business itself has suffered tremendously over the past year with the release of an undercover video series exposing Planned Parenthood’s apparent practices of selling the body parts of babies it aborts on the open market and altering the position of babies during abortion in order to harvest their most intact organs.

A Gallup survey released earlier in June shows Americans’ view of the abortion giant has soured substantially since 1993 when a full 81 percent of Americans thought highly of Planned Parenthood. This year, 59 percent were found to think similarly.
