Paul Ryan Says No To Gun Control Vote As Democrats Renew Tantrum

In spite of Democrats’ willingness to use “guerrilla tactics” for gun control until they get their way, Speaker Paul Ryan says there will be no votes on gun control legislation.

Just days ago, the Congressional Black Caucus circulated a memo urging its members “to be as disruptive to Speaker Ryan as possible” for the purposes of achieving a gun control vote.

But Politico reports that Ryan is standing his ground, for now. And that he met with Representatives John Lewis (D-GA-5)  and John Larson (D-CT-1)–two leaders behind last month’s gun control sit-in–in hopes of talking them into forgoing more disruptions of House business.

Lewis and Larson said Ryan was “respectful and courteous” but would not agree to any votes on Democrat gun control proposals. Other members of the House GOP leadership–“furious” about the Democrat sit-in–took a more direct approach by meeting with sergeant at arms Paul Irving to decide what can be done if Lewis and Larson try to repeat the antic.

Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA-5) made clear that Democrats will not let the issue go, regardless of Republican opposition to gun control. In March 2015 Thompson was one of the Democrats who joined Gabby Giffords’ push to require all would-be gun buyers to pass the same background check her attacker–Jared Loughner–passed to acquire his gun. It is interesting to note that the Orlando gunman passed the same background check prior to carrying out his heinous acts.
