Surveillance Video Released Of NYC Imam Shooting

Sandals mark the crime scene, Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, not far from the Al-Furqan Jame Mas

Surveillance video showing the shooting of Imam Maulama Akonjee and another man being described as his associate was released to the public Sunday.

The grainy video shows the shooter walking up behind the two men and opening fire. After fatally shooting the two men, the killer quickly turns around and walks away. The video appears to have been taken from across the street and doesn’t clearly show the features of either the victims or the attackers.

Police have released a sketch of the shooter and have described him as a “male with medium complexion dressed in a dark polo shirt and shorts.” While some have rushed to call the shooting a hate crime and blame Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani, police are not speculating about the motive.
