Police: Mexican National Arrested in Idaho for Stabbing Girlfriend

Police in Caldwell, Idaho, have located a Mexican national who is accused of stabbing his girlfriend multiple times and evading police, a report says.

Police finally arrested Mexican national Jose E. Cardenas, 24, and charged him with stabbing his girlfriend at least two times during an argument on August 20. The woman was stabbed in the “upper body and the neck,” KBOI reports.

The suspect fled before police arrived on the scene of the attack, and initial attempts to track him with a K9 unit failed.

Some time later, though, officials received a tip from a neighbor that Cardenas had knocked on his door asking for the police to be called so he could turn himself in.

“The fact that the suspect was here illegally with no known address and the fact that he appears to have worked for several different dairies in the area made it extremely difficult to locate him,” the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement:

Thankfully we had enough presence in the area that we essentially flushed him out of hiding. I am hopeful our dedication and relentless pursuit of protecting our citizens sends a message to all criminals – even those that are here illegally – that when you commit crimes in our county, we will do everything in our power to hold you accountable.

Cardenas, a citizen of Mexico in this country illegally, is facing felony assault charges.
