Mike Huckabee Condemns ‘Leftist Bullying’ Campaign Against Steve Bannon

Former Arkansas Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee condemned the left’s hysterical campaign against former Breitbart News executive chairman and incoming White House chief strategist Steve Bannon on Sunday, saying they want “to take America as we know it down.”

“The latest example of leftist bullying is the relentless campaign to force President-elect Donald Trump to separate himself from Stephen K. Bannon, his incoming White House counselor,” Huckabee wrote on Facebook. “The left has sought to dictate to us—that is, people of faith, conservatives, and, broadly, the American people—for, frankly, the entirety of our lives. For decades, liberal legislators, liberal judges, and liberal ‘journalists’ have tried to tell us what to do, what to think, and yes, who to hire.”

After failing to retake the presidency, the House, or the Senate, leftists are hoping to pick off Trump appointees to blunt the effectiveness of his administration, Huckabee said:

So now, having seen their radical agenda thwarted by the voters this November, the leftists are taking a new approach: They are attempting to target a member of Donald Trump’s staff. But their real target isn’t Steve Bannon. Instead, their real target is the center-right agenda—including conservative judges—that the Trump campaign, with Steve Bannon’s help, has embodied.

Perhaps I should tell you about the Steve Bannon I know. He is a conservative in his core—the kind of deep beliefs imprinted into him by his working-class background in a flag-waving blue-collar family in Norfolk, VA, as well as by his years of service in the US Navy, including in the hot zone of the Persian Gulf. And if you wish to know more about Steve’s values, please take a look at this transcript of a speech he delivered in the Vatican in 2014—he uses the phrase “Judeo-Christian values” no fewer than ten times. It’s worth noting that Steve’s speech was delivered two years ago, long before anyone, except perhaps Donald Trump, had any idea that we would be where we are today.

In his work as executive chairman of Breitbart News, he has been on the edge of the populist-nationalist surge that helped provide the agenda for the Trump Revolution.

And then, of course, he joined the Trump campaign in August, and the rest is history.

“Is Steve Bannon controversial? Sure. Has he made enemies? Sure—but only among those who don’t know him well!” Huckabee continued.

“But of course, Steve Bannon’s merits as a person, as well as a political strategist, don’t matter to the left. The left wants to take him down, just as it wants to take Donald Trump down, just as it wants to take America as we know it down. The left hasn’t given up on its dream of imposing its values on all of us. Forever,” he said. “I say: No More. We shouldn’t let the left win.”
