An infant was found alive in a storm drain with nothing but a scratch on her forehead, after she was thrown from a vehicle during a nighttime car crash in Texarkana, Arkansas.
A truck sideswiped the vehicle carrying the 8-month-old girl and four others, flipping the vehicle over and ejecting the infant from the vehicle into a nearby storm drain 25 feet away, WJW reported.
Survivors looked for the girl but could not find her. Then rescuers heard sounds from a patch of hay.
They found the infant inside a storm drain 25 feet away from the road. “The baby … was sitting up and looking up at us waiting for us to pull her out,” Texarkana firefighter Josh Moore said to KSLA.
It took three firefighters to get her out of the storm drain, which authorities say she must have rolled into after being thrown from the car. “There had to be some kind of divine intervention for her to end up being OK,” Moore said.
The child and the four others in the car were taken to a nearby hospital. All were released except for the driver who is still recovering.
Police found that the car seat was not properly installed and the child was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, but didn’t issue a citation to the driver of the car.
They did, however, issue a citation to the truck driver for an improper and unsafe lane change.
