Reports: Donald Trump Selects Retired General John Kelly for DHS Head

President-elect Donald Trump has selected retired General John F. Kelly to lead the Department of Homeland Security, according to reports.

The New York Times reports that while Trump hasn’t formally offered the job to Kelly yet, he plans to announce the appointment next week, along with his choice for Secretary of State. Major Garrett at CBS News reports Kelly accepted.

Kelly is the second Marine and third general to join a Trump administration, after retired U.S. Marine Corps General James Mattis and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn were tapped for Secretary of Defense and national security advisor.

Kelly’s career spanned 45 years and at his latest post, he was responsible for the U.S. military in Latin America and the Caribbean before retiring last January.
