A man accused of kicking the door in of an apartment in Raleigh, North Carolina got a painful surprise when the man inside beat him with a piece of firewood Monday.
Matthew Lawrence Bergstedt, 27, suffered two black eyes and facial lacerations as a result of the encounter, WTVD reported.
Police said after the resident hit him, Bergstedt fled the scene and broke into a nearby vacant apartment.
Bergstedt was charged with breaking and entering and attempted breaking and entering, police say.
Police said this was not a random act because he was once in a relationship with a woman in the apartment he tried to enter, WCTI reports.
