Police Search for Teacher Who Committed Sex Acts, Fled the Country

Police are searching for a Baltimore teacher who fled the country after detectives found that she engaged in sexual activity with a student.

Police said Ekatherine Pappas, 24, of Nottingham, started teaching Spanish at Franklin High School Nov. 16 when a school resource officer found video of a female teacher engaging in sex acts with a student, WBAL reported.

“He came across a student who actually had a copy of the video on their phone,” Baltimore County police Officer Jennifer Peach said.

Detectives confirmed the existence of the video and Pappas’s involvement in the sex acts with the 16-year-old student once on Dec. 21 and again on Dec. 22.

Police said the events did not take place on school grounds.

“As a teacher, she should’ve known that she’s not allowed to have any kind of a relationship with a student, and secondly a sexual relationship is an unlawful relationship between her age and a 16-year-old child,” Peach said.

Police say she would be charged with sexual abuse of a minor and related charges, the Associated Press reports.

A Baltimore County Public schools spokesperson said that “appropriate personnel action is being taken to include a recommendation of termination.”
