A pregnant Detroit woman is in critical condition after being ambushed outside her home and shot four times, police say.

The 32-year-old pregnant woman was shot on June 24 just before 10:30 PM in the 19000 block of Teppert Street on the city’s near northeast side, the Detroit News reports.

The woman, whose name is being withheld, walked up to the front door of her home when an assailant hidden inside opened fire hitting her in the abdomen, the thigh, the right forearm, and the lower right leg.

The suspect fled, and the victim could not give a description.

The victim then reportedly tried to drive herself to the hospital but didn’t get far before passing out. Bystanders called the police and an ambulance rushed the wounded woman to the hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Several pregnant women have become victims of violent crime of late in the Motor City.

Another pregnant woman gave birth in April after falling, or jumping, into the Detroit river.

Two Detroit police officers and a medic jumped into the frigid waters to rescue the woman and have been nominated for life-saving awards.

The woman, who may have been trying to commit suicide, gave birth to a healthy baby.

A third pregnant woman wasn’t as lucky. 31-year-old Bionka Lyons was shot and killed on the city’s west side last August. The woman’s unborn baby also died in the assault.
