Four children and one adult man were killed in Loganville, Georgia, in what police believe to be a mass stabbing possibly carried out by the children’s mother.

Fox 5 reports that all the deceased children were under the age of ten, and the adult male was in his mid-thirties.

According to Fox News, officers arrived just before 5 a.m. and found bodies of four children and one adult, all victims of a stabbing. A fifth child in the home was alive when police arrived and was rushed to the hospital “with very serious injuries.” The mother of the children was “detained,” and the motive for the attack is unknown:

ABC News reports that the mother “was quickly taken into custody” and that it appears “a knife was used in the attacks.”

Police did not know if the deceased male was the children’s “biological father” but do believe he lived in the home with the other stabbing victims.
